ZOOM DECOR – How to Make Your Home Office Look its Best During Video Conferencing

Posted on June 26th, 2020 by haynesbrosfurniture.

How we do our jobs has seen many changes in the past few months, and one of the most prevalent is the rise of video conferencing. Zoom meetings have become commonplace for those of us who took our jobs and meetings home, and as the country begins to open back up, Zooming is showing no signs of slowing down, nor fading into the past.

After having seen countless videos of “Zoom meeting fails,” many of us scramble to pull our environment together at the last minute, making sure the setting behind us is clean, organized, and free of anything personal we do not want the rest of the world to see. But, can’t we do better than that? Yes we can, and it can be fun, rewarding, and something to be proud of.

Your first step is to keep in mind that the Zoom app is designed to imitate an actual meeting, so do not go overboard with so much detail that it takes away from what should be the focal point, which is you. Not sure how? We have put together some great ideas to create an enviable view, without allowing it to be the subject of the meeting.

Books

If you have been collecting books for years and still have them all because, (like a lot of us), you feel every one of them “sparks joy”, it is time to shine! A beautiful collection of books can lend credibility to anything you say while bringing color, texture, and visual interest to your background. Take those dust covers off and let the beautiful and colorful spines show.  Whether you stack them in interesting ways or organize them by color, a well-stocked bookshelf is a wonderful addition to a room, as well as being a fantastic, Zoom meeting prop. Art

Curating an art wall is a great way to make a big statement in your video conference. Pick pieces that have a good amount of visual interest and appropriate content, but do not go overboard. The art you choose should complement your environment, not dominate it. Keep your themes work-friendly, and try not to choose pieces that will take people’s attention away from what you are saying. When it comes to creating your Zoom set, choosing art that is too eye-catching can be a problem. Don’t know where to start? Click here.

Plants

Indoor plants are rarely a bad idea and incorporating them in your Zoom background is just one more excellent reason to invest in and collect them. Plants are calming, air purifying, they add color, and many studies have found that being surrounded by these living things increases productivity. Create a vibrant and serene virtual interior by tastefully adding plants and flowers to your frame. Don’t know which plants are best for your home? Click here.

Most importantly, during a Zoom call, you are inviting coworkers and clients into your home, so make sure you present yourself in a professional, organized, clean, and stylish way. Design your environment so that you properly express who you are, without allowing what is behind you to steal your show.
