Summer-ize Your Home
Posted on May 9th, 2018 by haynesbrosfurniture.
When it is too cold to go outside and the night falls earlier and earlier, it can seem like the winter season will never end. Even so, winter inevitably gives way to spring and then to summer, so now is the time to get your home ready.
Now that the cold, harsh winter is behind us and the warm, spring season is finally here, it is time to summer-ize your home. Here are some practical steps you can take right now to get your home in summer shape before the heat really arrives.
Retire Winter
Winter is over, so put away your oversized sweater and pull out your short shorts. Put your winter blankets into storage, banishing them to the back of your closet until next fall. Remove your winter clothing from the front of your closet, pull out your summer clothes and get ready for the warm weather to come. Now is the time to retire winter; it will not be back for many months.
Think Light and Airy
The summer season is a time of fun and frivolity, so keep things light and airy. Focus your decorating efforts on light colored furniture, in shades of tan, beige and off-white. Use white curtains to create an airy look and feel for all your rooms. These simple decorating tricks can prep your home for summer in no time.
Rugs
You do not have to abandon your floor coverings for the summer season, but you can make them lighter and more seasonally appropriate. Replace your old heavy throw rugs with lighter and thinner rugs for the summer season. Get rid of those thick faux fur and shag throw rugs and choose something lighter, airier and lighter colored for the warm summer months.
Cool Down Your Bedroom
You do not want to create too much heat in your bedroom, so cool things down with the right accessories. Now that the cold winter months are over, you can put away those heavy comforters and flannel sheets – you will not be needing them until next year. Replace those heavy bed coverings and blankets with lighter bamboo and down options. You want your summer bedroom to be an oasis of light and charm, not an overheated cave.
Decorate with Flowers
Everything looks better with flowers, so bring the beauty of nature into your summer home. If you are an avid gardener, gather some cuttings when you go outside to care for your plants. If your thumb is less than green, you can always stop by the nursery or flower shop and pick up a bouquet for your summertime table or outdoor seating area.
Bring in the Beach
The summer season is a time of beach trips and fun, but you do not have to leave all that fun behind when you return home. Instead of leaving your beach vacation at the resort, bring the beach inside by filling an assortment of mason jars with sand, starfish décor, seashells and an assortment of other beach paraphernalia. You can also use beach paintings to decorate your summer walls or create a photo collage from your favorite vacation memories.
Summer is a time of fun and family, and you can extend that excitement into the four walls of your home. Now is the time to get your home ready for the warm weather to come, and the tips listed above and the design center at Haynes Bros can help you create the summer home of your dreams.
