Easy Home Projects For Apartment Dwellers
Variety is said to be the spice of life and these days life is feeling rather bland for most people. Our homes are no longer just home. Home is also work, school, the pub, the gym, and pretty much every other place we used to go. No matter what our activity, we are staring at the same walls for most of the day. For homeowners, it is easy to decide to shake things up and change their inside and outdoor environments, but not as much for apartment dwellers. Not only are renters limited by landlords and leases, but they often have less space in which to create different types of environments. However, as is the case in all things, it is important to be innovative when facing a challenge and we have three great ideas that can be easily implemented in a rental space.
Paint

Most rental apartments come equipped with eggshell-colored walls. Paint is an easy way to spruce-up how any room feels, and most apartments allow you to do it, as long as you paint back over them at the end of your lease. Paint is cheap and easy to change, if you end up not liking it. It gives you the biggest bang for your buck. A new color on your walls can give you that breath of fresh air you are craving. If you feel timid about painting a whole room, try starting with an accent wall or by painting yourself a headboard.
Faux Kitchen Refurb

We know renters can not pull out cabinets and remove unsightly tile, but there are some things that can be done cosmetically to improve the feeling of your kitchen. A quick and easy fix for out of date cabinetry is to change the pulls and nobs and utilize decorative contact paper to modernize the doors. If you have a terrible backsplash you want to hide, there is a sticky-backed, easy to remove tile, that you can place directly over existing tile, and comes off easily when it is time to move.
Get Outside

Not every apartment has an outdoor living space, but if you are lucky enough to have one, make the best of it! Balconies can be adorned with flowering, as well as edible, plants. Having a mini garden that nourishes your soul while also adding to a healthier diet, is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Get a comfortable chair, a table to work and eat at, hang some string lights, and you have a beautiful oasis from the tightness of a small, indoor environment.
Create a Festive Atmosphere

Nighttime can be particularly difficult for many people in isolation. If you are accustomed to going for a drink or two at a pub, why not create a small version in your home? Many apartments have small breakfast bars or kitchen pass-throughs where you can pull up a barstool and enjoy your evening beverage. Put out a few bottles, some attractive stemware, and maybe even get a rotating party bulb to add some whimsy and atmosphere. It creates the feeling of a party, and in this day and age, you can even use services like Zoom and Facetime to invite friends to join you!
